Add Page Numbers to PDF
Number every page of a PDF, with your choice of position and format
This tool adds page numbers to every page of a PDF, with your choice of position, numbering format, and starting number — all processed in your browser.
How to add page numbers
Upload a PDF, choose a position (e.g. bottom center), pick a format like "1, 2, 3" or "Page 1", set a starting number, then click Add Page Numbers.
Why add page numbers?
Page numbers are useful for:
- Printed reports, contracts, and manuals
- Referencing specific pages in meetings or reviews
- Reassembling printed pages in the correct order
- Academic papers and long-form documents
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Page numbers are added entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib library — nothing is uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from a page other than the first?
The starting number field controls what number the first page is labeled with, but numbering is still applied to every page in sequence.
Can I skip numbering on the cover page?
Not directly in this version — as a workaround, split off the cover page first using Organize PDF, number the rest, then merge them back with PDF Tools.
What font is used for the page numbers?
Page numbers are rendered in Helvetica, a clean, widely-compatible font that displays consistently across PDF readers.
